DIY Dresser Make-Over with Lacy Drawers and Hand Painted Knobs
I’ve had this old dresser for a number of years. I’ve used it to keep my sewing supplies in. When I painted the rooms in my house I wanted to paint everything! I am so pleased with the results of this Dresser Make-Over with Lacy Drawers!
Inspiration for My Dresser
My inspiration for this dresser came from Danielle over at Silver Pennies. This adorable–much more adorable than mine–dresser in Duck Egg Blue and Old White. She used a stencil to achieve the detail on the front. I found another idea on Pinterest that I wanted to try instead. Lace!
I got this idea from Home Dzine. After you get your dresser drawers painted you lay a piece of lace on top and spray paint.
I had a huge piece of lace, not quite as lacy as hers, but for a sewing dresser it was just right. Using white spray paint, I sprayed several layers on, letting them dry about 10-15 minutes in between. They say not to reuse the lace, however I did for a second project and it was fine. So, I guess that depends on how daring you are. Worse case scenario I would have just painted blue over and started again.
This last picture is the truest my camera came to the actual color. When the sun is shining on it it looks much lighter.
After a bit of sanding and some clean-up, I painted my dresser with primer first. I like to paint the inside of the drawers and the sides, Then I put 2 coats of blue. I didn’t have ‘Duck Egg Blue’ so I took the blue I painted part of my kitchen wall with, and mixed it with white til I got a pretty lighter blue shade. All of the dresser, inside and out (except bottom of drawers), got painted white. The front of the drawers and top of the dresser got painted blue.
You may have noticed the decorative painted knobs. I hand painted those. You can read about them on my post Hand-Painted Dresser Knobs.
The dresser is such a transformation! It makes my sewing room so bright and cheerful! I loved it so much I painted a second sewing dresser to match.

I already had some cute porcelain knobs I wanted to use, so they were a nice finishing touch for this dresser make-over with lacy drawers.
